Often I’m asked, during a gallery or personal reading, if a loved one who has passed has come back as an angel or guide. Based on what my guidance has told me, loved ones who pass may return to provide guidance and support to those they love and care about. They may become a guide, but this isn’t necessarily their role. To be a guide, a spirit must have evolved in their spiritual growth to be awarded the distinction of guide or guardian.
We are not the ones to determine how our loved ones lived or how evolved their essence has become. Sometimes a soul decides to return to learn through a challenging life, while others come simply to touch souls. Of course, there are some people whose presence makes it clear they are wonderfully evolved souls, worthy of the distinction of guide or guardian.
My guidance has shared that people have a different energy, vibration, and essence from angels. It’s my understanding that when people pass, they do not turn into angels. However, very high-energy people—and similar vibrational beings—may choose to evolve into guides, guardians, masters, or even ascended masters.
Ascended Masters are high-vibrational, spiritually enlightened beings—once human or of similar origin—who have transcended the need or desire for physical incarnation. They have overcome earthly and other-worldly challenges to achieve higher consciousness. From that higher plane, they serve as advanced guides, assisting humanity and other realms through wisdom, compassion, and spiritual teaching.
These masters are of human or similar origin, unlike angels. They have accomplished spiritual evolution through transformation and challenge. They are of higher consciousness, able to provide divine guidance, and dwell near the side of the Divine. A few known Ascended Masters include Buddha, Kwan Yin, and Mary.
I know a woman who is very special, and I believe she is on the path of an Ascended Master. In her current life, she walks a deeply spiritual path. She teaches by example—living in a way that reflects the grace and balance of a highly spiritual being. Her belief is to meet each person where they are on their path, with inclusivity and acceptance. From her, I’ve learned to see others with deeper compassion and to recognize when to embrace and when to lovingly step back so others can learn their own lessons. She has told me she believes this may be her last earth walk—or perhaps she has a bit more to finish before one final life. Her integrity and understanding of people, her ability to allow others their choices, and her awareness of the true intent behind spiritual teachings all reflect a profound soul wisdom.
I also believe that, on occasion, an angel chooses to incarnate in physical form. These are angels who come to Earth to experience life as humans—or, more often, as animals. Many angelic beings choose to incarnate as pets to experience earthly life and choice from a grounded, heart-centered perspective. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of these highly evolved beings—angel animals among them.
I also believe I have known a few people who were angels incarnate, here to understand life on Earth through physical experience. These individuals have a distinct, radiant energy about them.
The first was a woman named Betty. She was the kindest, most considerate, and accepting person I have ever known. Her energy vibrated at such a high level that even a photograph of her radiated light. Years after she passed, I looked at her picture and realized something striking—she was, by human standards, one of the most physically unattractive women I had ever seen. Yet in life, no one ever noticed. What everyone saw was her glow—the divine essence shining through from within.
Another angelic soul I encountered was Coach Tony. I met him when he coached children’s sports. I know little about his life outside that, but what I do know is this: he created community, inspired kids to try their best, and built bridges between people. My grandson played soccer under his coaching for a few years and adored him. When my grandson later saw him at a basketball game, he almost didn’t recognize him because Coach Tony had grown a beard. That struck me deeply, because Coach Tony had no arms or legs. He coached from a wheelchair, yet the children never saw his physical limitations—they only saw the light of his spirit. A beard could disguise his face, but nothing could hide his glow.
I also have the privilege of knowing a woman who walks with such grace, acceptance, and spiritual good that I believe she, too, is an angel incarnate. Her life is a daily act of service and compassion. She moves with an inner light that seems to lift her above the physical plane.
Incarnate angels are not perfect people. They are, however, people whose divine essence shines so brightly it transcends appearance or form. It has been a profound privilege to meet and know souls who appear to walk as Ascended Masters among us—and even more so, those rare angelic beings in human form who bless all who cross their path.
