Happy Holidays! This means something different to each of us. For some, it’s all about family and friends gathering in festive ways. But for others, the holidays bring stress. Both joy and stress affect energy.

I know for myself, even those events that rev up my energy while participating may bring a need for a day of quiet to recoup the next day. I have enough self-respect to take that time so my energy doesn’t become drained and depleted.

It can be hard to pause during festive activities. However, not taking time to rebalance your energy can result in depletion and, for some, opening their energy to dis-ease.

Having fun is important. It’s a valuable part of connecting and forming bonds with others. But being aware of how much energy is reasonable for you to use without depleting your reserves is equally important. When you sense you are approaching your limit, be self-aware and self-respectful enough to leave the gathering so you do not become depleted and open to dis-ease.

And if you know someone who has low energy reserves, be respectful and don’t ask them to deplete their energy. Neither of you will enjoy your time together if one of you has too little energy to enjoy the experience. Expecting others to push too much may even create resentments. Rather, find healthy, fair balances that honor both parties enough.

If the holidays stress you, you may be asked to stretch beyond your comfort. If you can stretch some and it’s worth it, do so. Think and plan ahead for ways that may stretch your comfort without completely crushing your energy. This can help you be part of holiday festivities, bond with others, and enjoy your life. Above all, with care, you are also practicing self-care that does not deplete your energy.

Whether you are energized or stressed by the holidays, having ways to help replenish your energy is especially helpful. Reach out if you are seeking a session with me.
