There are two spiny creatures that hold interesting spiritual powers and strengths. These two beings come from both the Earthen and Mystical realms. The depth of introspection comes from their position in the Mystical realm, and their Earthen powers strengthen adaptability and compatibility.

Echidnas are marsupials found in Australia and New Guinea. A common description compares them to spiny anteaters because of their appearance, even though they are not even closely related to anteaters or hedgehogs. They are some of the only living egg-laying mammals.

Echidnas have quills that resemble the spines of hedgehogs, short, thick, and without barbs, though described as foam-like on the inside. Researchers know little about echidna quills in comparison to other animals’ quills. Their quills have blunt tips and resist bending and are used by echidnas as protective armor. And they are great at digging.

Tenrecs are small mammals only found in Madagascar. Tenrecs are in the family group, Tenrecidae along with hedgehogs, to whom they are similar in appearance. And, like porcupines, by rubbing their spines together they can make sounds used for defense, feeding, social contact, courtship, and exploration

Tenrecs are confident animals. These slow-moving animals are easy-going and easy to handle. Keepers will carry them around in a pouch. They are naturally sleepy during winter months. They are closely related to elephants and have a shared ancestry of over 160 million years.

Both of these spiny animals offer self-protection from the outside world, the use of keen instincts, the ability to overcome challenges, self-strength, as well as peace, simplicity, and creativity.

Echidnas specifically symbolize mystery, introspection, and adaptability. They present those they work with courage, strength, instinct, and the ability to overcome challenges. The echidnas represent insight through deep introspection and courageous willingness to be adaptable. They often provide comfort with independence, being resourceful, and meeting challenges with grace and strength.

They are powerful guides who encourage looking at options and being adaptable. Their message is to have natural curiosity and wonder to find solutions and better understand the need to compromise for peaceful interactions with Earth. The more inner peace you have, the more you are able to trust your instincts, face changes, be adaptable, and accept others.

As spiny creatures, they encourage introspection that comes from self-reflection and self-acceptance, while also appreciating the value of community. The echidnas encourage some isolation to bring forward deep self-awareness, acceptance, and insight that acknowledges recognition of all.

With the tenrec comes resilience, adaptability, and creativity. They share their ability to thrive in a variety of environments that comes from reflection, the importance of versatility, and being open to change. They bring forward resourcefulness and find new ways to face challenges.

As well, the tenrec encourages one to embrace one’s unique qualities and abilities and teaches agility and adaptability with grace. To achieve goals, this kind spirit provides guidance to explore one’s possibilities and to try new solutions to all obstacles. They are also known for their resourcefulness and innovation to navigate through all life situations with courage and release fears that keep one stuck. They encourage one to go beyond the surface to go deeper where hidden truths can be discovered.

These spiny beings are interesting spirit beings that encourage deep introspection in preparation for adaptability and change. As well, they are considered mystical beings in a very old tale that says folk put food around their dwellings to attract these spiny creatures to protect them from outside harm. Noticing how reliant the folks were on these kind gentle creatures, Earth Mother was concerned the small creatures could not fulfill the overwhelming task. To help them, Earth Mother granted them extra powers of more self-reliance and wisdom. She encouraged them to be adaptive when offering protection outside the folks’ dwellings. One particular group would sing during the light of the moon, an eerie tune that frightened off the unwelcome. Earth Mother granted extra resources to this group and called them Moonrats. She then gave all spiny creatures qualities and traits of intelligence and nimbleness in physique, brain, and soul. In gratitude for their new gifts, the spiny creatures all agreed to offer energy to share their gifts with all who accepted their assistance and protection. They willingly show those they protect their qualities of resilience and creativity to navigate life through challenging times with wisdom, kindness, and adaptability to change. Pay attention to the messages the echidnas and tenrec bring and be open to exploring the new.
