Welcoming the fae begins with belief. While they dwell on the other side of the veil, they are respectful beings who often wait to be invited. They may already be observing from the safety of that other side, quietly watching to see if you’re open to their presence—or if you’d even notice they were there.
Sometimes, we welcome them without even realizing it. Acts of beauty, kindness to nature, music, or tending to sacred spaces are all ways of saying, in the fae language, You are welcome here.
One of the most common questions I hear after, “How do I invite them?” is “How do I know they’re actually in my home?”
Fae are naturally private and cautious. More often than not, they visit without our awareness, because we miss their subtle signs. If you’ve spoken aloud or thought about inviting them, they may have already come by—quietly leaving signs to see if you truly meant it. If those signs go unnoticed, they may interpret it as a casual wish, rather than a heartfelt invitation. While they are patient, if they feel unwelcome or unseen, they will move on.
Each fae has their own unique way of making themselves known. Just as with people, their personalities differ widely. Some are playful, some quiet, some bold, and some more reserved. The key is to slow down and watch. The way they choose to connect with you will often match their personality and your energy.
Let me share a recent experience of my own to show just how subtle—but meaningful—their presence can be.
One night, I woke up and noticed a soft, blue blinking light in my room. I got up, drank some water, and crawled back into bed, planning to go back to sleep. But the blinking kept catching my attention. I started running through possibilities—what electronic device could that be? Eventually, I tried calming my mind with some relaxation techniques.
Then it hit me: we don’t have anything in our room that blinks blue.
I sat up and said, “Hello, fae friends. I’ll talk with you in the morning.” Immediately, the blinking stopped.
True to my word, the next morning I sat in quiet and welcomed them. For me, there are two ways I connect with them: through meditation, or by crossing through the veil in the way they’ve taught me. This time, I chose meditation. I was warmly greeted, and they shared both a sense of joy and some personal insights with me.
I share this story to remind you that even I miss their signals sometimes. But when we do pay attention, it opens a door to beautiful, reciprocal connection.
Here are some subtle signs the fae may be visiting you:
- Flowers blooming out of season — like day lilies appearing in September or October
- Pets staring into empty corners or playing with invisible friends — especially common with cats, birds, and reptiles
- Wind chimes ringing with no wind, or when no chimes are present
- Mysterious sparkles or lights that seem to come from nowhere
- Soft singing, humming, or whispering with no clear source
- Messages that come through differently than from your usual guides or angels
- Images, lights, or flickers that vanish when you look again
- Objects disappearing and reappearing in places you’ve already checked
- Unexplainable “gifts” that show up in your space
- An abundance of dragonflies, butterflies, or small birds around your home
These are just a few ways the fae make their presence known. The more attuned you are to the quiet magic around you, the more you’ll begin to notice.
So if you’ve extended the invitation, stay aware. Keep your heart open. The fae may already be closer than you think.
